What key words best describe your hope for the future?

Fundraising, environmental justice, sustainable communities, ocean preservation/protection

Describe what are you working on in the field of climate change, environmental protection, environmental justice or social impact.

The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE) is a countywide advocacy and resource organization that promotes bicycling for safe transportation and recreation. We advocate for safe bike infrastructure and provide education to enable more people to commute by bicycle, thus improving the health and environmental sustainability of our community. We aim to increase the number of commuters by bicycle to reduce vehicle traffic and improve air quality. In January 2016, 15 million dollars in funding was awarded from the California Transportation Commission toward bicycle infrastructure in Santa Barbara (Buellton, SB East Side & West Side, Rincon); SBBIKE successfully advocated for these projects. This shows the importance of planning for the future and the importance of bicycling.

How might other W&E conference attendees be able to support your work, goals or objectives?

There are many ways for other W&E conference attendees to support our work. You can join our efforts to advocate for safe bycle infrastructure in Santa Barbara County by visiting our website and e-newsletters for updated information on city council meetings and other opportunities to show support of safe bicycle infrastructure (http://www.sbbike.org/connecting_our_community).

You can also become a member to contribute to SBBIKE’s long term success. We also have many volunteer opportunities in our Do-It-Yourself community bike repair shop (Bici Centro), in our youth and adult education programs, as well as our bike valet services at community events. Please see our volunteer page for more information: http://www.sbbike.org/volunteer.

What are you able and willing to contribute to other attendees at the conference to support their work, goals or objectives?

I am willing and able to contribute my time and fundraising knowledge and experience to other attendees and organizations at the conference. My goal is to collaborate with like-minded individuals on concrete actions to create a sustainable community in Santa Barbara. SBBIKE is working toward sustainable transportation solutions. We welcome partnership with businesses, nonprofits, individuals, and government entities working toward similar goals.
